Claudia Alonso is a Manchester-based artist born in Madrid, Spain. Since then, she has exhibited at the Victoria Warehouse, New Adelphi Gallery, Paradise Works, Salford Museum and Art gallery, The Manchester Museum and her work is part of the University of Salford's art collection.
She won a masters bursary as a result of designing the pictures displayed at the entrance of new blocks of apartments in Salford and is currently specialising in Social Engamenet art practice. She was commissioned by the Whitworth for the realisation of a mosaic in a public space. She participated in MIF19 at School of Integration as a teacher. She is founder and member of the print collective Rhubarb & Custard. She is also a member of TSAP ( terrace square artist project) a socially engaged project with her neighbours.
Claudia Alonso’s practice employs her photographic experience and explores the environment, collective making and public spaces as part of her practice.
She uses her knowledge of a variety of skills, photography, graphic design, printmaking, textile, paper making and combines them with her interest in useful art to create works on a variety of materials and shapes. Her work adapts to commissions and events. She aims to open a conversation about the current narrative of environmental crisis by openly discussing the issues affecting the community. She is currently developing a public project making back alleys into shared gardens and making paper using seeds that will eventually grow.
